About Us
Our mission:
Our mission is to develop disruptive solutions for utility-scale energy storage, grid balancing, and carbon reuse to support green transition, hydrogen economy development, and climate-neutrality.
Based on our strong R&D background, we aim to design and deliver technologically advanced, industrial scale power-to-gas (P2G) facilities and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) solutions with a strong focus on innovation drivers of local markets (e.g. hydrogen economy). As a leading innovator in Central Europe, we would like to commercialize our innovations across European countries, furthermore, to realize a 10 MWel system in the future.
Our history:
Innovative prototype development and operations in Vértes Power Plant, Hungary
Established in 2016, Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft. has developed the most innovative lab scale power-to-gas prototype from Europe. The prototype is operated since 2018 in Vértes Power Plant. Numerous scientific papers have been published about the operations experience.
Upscaling by Carbon Capture & Utilization
Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft. aims to build the world's first grid-scale power-to-gas plant with a power consumption of up to 10 megawatts, in partnership with local utility companies, academic institutions and start-ups. The plant will be located in Hungary. For this purpose, local research and development have been performed in cooperation with Hungarian professionals and academic institutions. Detailed financial and technical planning, as well as local site selection and business development activities are currently in focus.
Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft has achieved a significant milestone in own technology development: two patent applications have been submitted in 2022, focusing on the integration of carbon capture and utilization and power-to-gas technologies based on a newly developed CCU&P2G prototype.
Extensive scientific and industrial research
Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft. has been awarded with TOP 10 Innovation Award of Hungary in 2019, and has also initiated and organised the 1st Hungarian Power-to-Gas Conference at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2019, in partnership with Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Budapest Corvinus University and Hungarian Academy of Sciences Center for Energy Research. It was followed by the 2nd and the 3rd Hungarian Power-to-Gas Conference in 2020 and 2021.
Meanwhile, Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft. conducted several feasibility studies in industrial contexts, assessed potential sites for P2G implementation, with a strong focus on hydrogen economy development, decarbonization, and power-to-X technologies. Based on the industrial and scientific research results, more than 35 publications were published, including 6 international Q1/Q2 journal articles.
CarbontecH2 patent and utility model
The CarbontecH2 technology of Power-to-Gas Hungary Kft. has been granted patent protection (P2200190) and a utility model protection has been also registered for the CarbontecH2 prototype(U2300161).
These are important milestones in the recognition of the global novelty, industrial applicability, and breakthrough nature of our R&D and innovation activities, and provide a solid technical basis for theindustrial-scale deployment of our system integrating carbon capture & utilization and power-to-gastechnologies.
